Apple Trees

One of the best loved fruits, apples are probably the easiest tree fruits to grow and are very popular with gardeners. In the shops we only tend to see a handful of varieties, yet there are literally thousands of known cultivars, each having their own characteristics.

Pomona Fruits is your trusted source for apple trees in the UK. Whether you’re a seasoned fruit grower or a budding enthusiast, our selection of apple trees will surely delight your horticultural senses. We have very carefully selected what we believe to be a diverse range of varieties to suit all tastes and even the most challenging growing conditions - some are recent introductions and some are much loved gems from our heritage.

Our apple trees are grafted onto M26 semi-dwarfing rootstock, which will produce a tree that is easy to grow, easy to control and easy to pick. Bush apple trees will grow 2.4-3.6m (8-12ft) in height and spread. Unless otherwise stated, apples are supplied as two year old bare root trees and will be 1.2-1.5m (4-5ft) high on despatch (including the roots). If you require one year old maiden trees for training as an espalier or fan, please advise us when ordering. Trees are available from late November to late April.

Why choose an apple tree?

Nothing quite compares to the satisfaction of picking a crisp, juicy apple from your very own tree. Apple trees not only provide edible fruits but also add charm and character to any garden. From the enchanting spring blossom to the bountiful autumn harvest, these trees offer beauty and utility.

Our diverse selection

At Pomona Fruits, we pride ourselves on offering a wide variety of apple trees for sale, catering to diverse tastes and growing conditions. Whether you fancy a classic ‘Bramley’s Seedling’ for your culinary creations or a russet variety like ‘Egremont Russet’ for its unique, nutty flavour, we have the perfect tree for you.

Choosing the right apple tree

We understand that you may be overwhelmed by the large number of different apple tree varieties that are available. Consider these factors to make an informed decision:

  • Space availability.
  • Desired fruit use (cooking, eating, or both).
  • Picking time and season of use.
  • Climate and soil conditions.
  • Disease resistance.
  • Pollination requirements.

Our expert team is always on hand to guide you through this process, ensuring you find the perfect match for your garden.

Caring for your apple tree

Once you've chosen your apple tree, proper care is essential for optimal growth and fruit production. Here are some key tips:

  • Plant in a sunny location with well-draining soil.
  • Water regularly during dry spells.
  • Prune annually to maintain shape and encourage fruiting.
  • Protect from pests and diseases.
