Apricot Tree 'Alfred'

Apricot Tree 'Alfred' Code: PNA037M

£39.95 39.9500 In Stock New

Prunus armeniaca 'Alfred'

Originating from the USA, this popular garden variety grows well in the UK and is less prone to dieback than other varieties. The medium-sized fruits have a deep orange skin and juicy orange flesh. They are delicious eaten straight from the tree but can also be used to make wonderful jam.

Pollination: Self-fertile.

Season: late July.

Available for delivery: late November/December - early May.

Home grown apricots are succulent and juicy and have a rich aromatic flavour that you do not experience from shop purchased fruits. Thanks to modern breeding there are now reliable varieties available, making them a very worthwhile crop to grow. They require similar growing conditions to peaches - a warm sheltered site in full sun.

Our apricots are grown on Montclair rootstock to create a compact tree that is proven to give a heavier crop of larger fruit. Apricots can be trained as a fan on a south or south-west facing wall or fence, 3.6m (12ft) wide and 2m (6ft 6in) high. They can also be grown as free standing bush trees 3.6m (12ft) in height and spread. Unless otherwise stated, apricots are supplied as one year old bare root maidens suitable for training and will be 1.2-1.5m (4-5ft) high on despatch (including the roots). Trees are available from late November to late April.

Pomona Fruits is your trusted source for apricot trees in the UK. We understand the joy and satisfaction of cultivating your own fruit, and we’re here to help you bring the sweet, sun-kissed flavour of apricots to your garden.

Are you yearning for the taste of homegrown apricots but worried about the challenges of growing them in our unpredictable British climate? Fear not, for we offer a selection of apricot trees specifically chosen to thrive in UK conditions.

Our range includes robust varieties like ‘Alfred’, which is less prone to dieback, a common concern for apricot growers in our climate. For those seeking reliability, ‘Golden Glow’ is an excellent choice, having been discovered on the Malvern Hills and boasting good resistance to Bacterial Canker, which can often be a problem for gardeners in wetter regions.

For those seeking the heaviest cropping apricot trees for sale in the UK, look no further than ‘Flavorcot’ and ‘Tomcot’. These modern varieties represent a significant advancement in apricot breeding, performing exceptionally well in our climate and have the potential to produce up to 750 apricots on a mature tree.

Perhaps you’re limited on space? Sibley’s Patio ‘Flavorcot’ and Sibley’s Patio ‘Tomcot’ are the perfect solution. These compact trees can be restricted to a height of 1.2m (4ft), making them ideal for patios or small gardens.

At Pomona Fruits, we’re not just selling apricot trees; we’re offering you the opportunity to create your own orchard, no matter the size of your outdoor space. Imagine harvesting sun-warmed apricots straight from your own tree, or crafting homemade jams and preserves with fruit you’ve nurtured yourself.

Our expert-grown apricot trees come with care instructions to ensure your success. We’re here to support you every step of the way, from choosing the right variety for your garden to providing ongoing care advice.

Browse our selection of apricot trees for sale today and take the first step towards a bountiful harvest of your very own apricots.

Don't forget to include tree stakes and ties on your order. All young fruit trees require staking and for better establishment we strongly advise using Rootgrow when planting (as recommended in RHS planting guidelines).
