Are you passionate about growing your own fruit but find yourself constrained by limited garden space? Look no further than our range of cordon pear trees. These columnar fruit trees are the ideal choice for gardeners seeking to maximise their harvest in minimal space.

Pear trees, like apple trees, are easy to grow and suffer with very few problems. Cordons should be restricted to 1.8-2.4m (6-8ft) in height and can be spaced 60cm (2ft) apart. Choose a sunny, sheltered site. To ensure rapid establishment, cordon pear trees are supplied bare-rooted and will be approximately 1-1.2m (3-4ft) tall on despatch (including the roots). Trees are available from late November to late April.

What are cordon pear trees?

Cordon pear trees, sometimes referred to as columnar pear trees, are specially trained to grow vertically with a single main stem and short side branches. This unique growing method allows you to plant several varieties in a small area, providing a bountiful and diverse harvest even in the most compact gardens.

Benefits of choosing cordon pear trees

  • Space-saving: Perfect for small gardens, patios, or even balconies.
  • Easier maintenance: Pruning and harvesting are simplified due to the tree’s compact structure.
  • Aesthetic appeal: Create a stunning vertical display in your garden.

How to care for your cordon pear tree

Proper care is essential for the health and productivity of your cordon pear tree. Here are some key tips:

  • Planting: Choose a sunny, sheltered spot with well-draining soil.
  • Support: Use a sturdy stake to support your tree, or posts and wires to support trees grown against a wall.
  • Pruning: Regular pruning is crucial to maintain the cordon shape and encourage fruit production.
  • Watering: Ensure consistent moisture, especially during the summer months.
  • Feeding: Apply a balanced fertiliser in spring to promote healthy growth and bountiful harvests.

By following these simple guidelines, you’ll be well on your way to enjoying delicious home-grown pears from your very own cordon pear tree.
