This collection consists of 18 hedging plants that can be used in a mixed native hedgerow. The mixture consists of 6 each of the following:

Acer campestre (Field Maple)

One of the best hedging plants for autumn colour. The young foliage is tinged red before turning to green and then yellow in the autumn. Makes an excellent fast growing, dense hedge. Will do well in any well drained but moist soil including windy and coastal areas. Plant 60cm (2ft) apart. Height on despatch: 60-90cm (2-3ft).

Bred in the U.K.  RHS Award of Garden Merit

Crataegus monogyna (Hawthorn, May)

A fast growing hedge producing masses of scented white flowers in the late spring followed by small bright red berries (haws) in the autumn. The fruits are edible and can be made into jellies, jams and syrups. Will tolerate wet soils and partial shade. Plant 20-30cm (8-12in) apart. Height on despatch: 60-90cm (2-3ft).

Bred in the U.K.  RHS Perfect for Pollinators

Prunus spinosa (Sloe)

A dense, spiny hedge producing cascades of tiny white flowers in the spring. The small blue-black fruits can be used to make sloe gin. Thrives in poor soils. Plant 45cm (18in) apart. Height on despatch: 60-90cm (2-3ft).

Bred in the U.K.  RHS Perfect for Pollinators

Available for delivery: late November/December - early May.

Hedging can provide nesting opportunities for birds and bring a wide range of wildlife to the garden. Many types of hedging also produce edible fruits that can be used to make jellies and drinks. To ensure rapid establishment, our hedging plants are supplied as two year old bare root plants. Available from late November to late April.

For better establishment we strongly advise using Rootgrow when planting (as recommended in RHS planting guidelines).
