Prunus 'Okame'

NEW! This lovely small flowering cherry tree produces masses of dainty single carmine-pink flowers in the spring. It is a very good choice if you are trying to attract wildlife to the garden. The blossom is very popular with bees and the tree will often produce a crop of small dark cherries, not palatable to humans but liked by birds. The dark green foliage turns to vibrant shades of orange and red in the autumn. Chalk tolerant.

RHS Award of Garden Merit

Height x spread in 10 years: up to 2.5m (8ft).

Available for delivery: late November/December - late April.

Flowering cherries (Prunus) are very popular ornamental trees renowned for their beautiful spring blossom and autumn foliage. Some (such as Prunus serrula) also have ornamental bark, whilst others (such as Prunus 'Royal Burgundy') have striking foliage. Their flowers range in colour from pure white to dark pink and can be single, double or semi-double. They make fantastic feature trees with forms varying from columnar through to upright, rounded, spreading and weeping. They are easy to grow, doing well in most normal well drained soils. They grow particularly well on chalk but are equally at home in acid soils provided the drainage is reasonable. Flowering cherry trees are supplied bare-rooted and unless otherwise stated will be approximately 1.2-1.5m (4-5ft) high on despatch (including the roots). They are grown on semi-dwarfing rootstocks (Colt) to encourage rapid establishment, to minimise any shoots growing from the rootstock and to ensure that in later years the tree remains at a manageable size. Trees are available from late November to late April.

Don't forget to include tree stakes and ties on your order. All young trees require staking and for better establishment we strongly advise using Rootgrow when planting (as recommended in RHS planting guidelines).
