Prunus x subhirtella 'Autumnalis Rosea' (Winter Flowering Cherry)

This is the pink version of the winter flowering cherry tree and can be grown in the smallest of gardens. It boasts a welcome display of semi-double rosy pink flowers that will brighten up the greyest of winter days. The flowers open from dark pink buds and fade slightly to soft pink as they mature, appearing intermittently over a long period from November until March. The blossom is sometimes followed by small, bitter fruits that are loved by the birds. The foliage is bronze in the spring, turning green in the summer and gold in the autumn. Chalk tolerant.

Flowering cherries (Prunus) are very popular ornamental trees renowned for their beautiful spring blossom and autumn foliage. Some (such as Prunus serrula) also have ornamental bark, whilst others (such as Prunus 'Royal Burgundy') have striking foliage. Their flowers range in colour from pure white to dark pink and can be single, double or semi-double. They make fantastic feature trees with forms varying from columnar through to upright, rounded, spreading and weeping. They are easy to grow, doing well in most normal well drained soils. They grow particularly well on chalk but are equally at home in acid soils provided the drainage is reasonable. Flowering cherry trees are supplied bare-rooted and unless otherwise stated will be approximately 1.2-1.5m (4-5ft) high on despatch (including the roots). They are grown on semi-dwarfing rootstocks (Colt) to encourage rapid establishment, to minimise any shoots growing from the rootstock and to ensure that in later years the tree remains at a manageable size. Trees are available from late November to late April.

Don't forget to include tree stakes and ties on your order. All young trees require staking and for better establishment we strongly advise using Rootgrow when planting (as recommended in RHS planting guidelines).

(image for) Japanese Wineberry Bush(image for) New Product
£22.95Japanese Wineberry BushUse this plant to bring some winter cheer to the garden! Originating from Eastern Asia, the Japanese Wineberry is grown as much for its ornamental value as it is for its edible fruits. The plant is very decorative - it has dark red stems that are covered in soft red bristles. The calyx (which surrounds the flowers) are also covered in fine red bristles and contrast beautifully against the lime-green foliage which turns almost yellow-white at the time of fruiting. The dark red canes really stand out in the winter and look particularly attractive on a frosty morning. The berries are dark red when fully ripe, juicy and sweet and have a strong raspberry flavour. They are delicious picked straight from the bush but can also be cooked and used to make jam. Plant 1.8m (6ft) apart.Buy Now
