Rubus 'Karaka Black'

With an average berry weight of 10g or more, this new blackberry produces some of the largest fruits we have ever seen. The long, firm, glossy berries are well displayed, easy to pick and have a good flavour. Yields in trials have been outstanding - in New Zealand, where it was bred, it is now the most widely planted variety due to its exceptional performance. The canes are moderately vigorous and although spiny are fairly easy to manage. Ripens early in the season and has a long cropping period, producing high quality fruit for six weeks. Plant 1.8m (6ft) apart.

RHS Perfect for Pollinators

Season: early July - mid Aug.

Despatched within 14 days (unless ordered with bare root items).

Blackberries and hybrid berries (arising from crosses between raspberries and blackberries) will thrive under a wide range of site and soil conditions and need not take up much room in your garden. They will tolerate sun or shade and are useful for covering a north facing wall, trellis or fence. With a selection of different varieties it is possible to harvest fruit from early July until the autumn. Although bursting with flavour when eaten fresh, surplus fruit freezes well and can be used to make excellent jam and crumbles! Trained plants can grow and be maintained to a height of 1.5-1.8m (5-6ft) and should be planted 1.8-2.4m (6-8ft) apart.

Please note - where we quote a height on despatch, this includes the pot.

Don't forget to include a Gripple Wire Tensioning Kit on your order, the easy way to support blackberry bushes.  For better establishment we strongly advise using Rootgrow when planting (as recommended in RHS planting guidelines).

(image for) Japanese Wineberry Bush
£24.95Japanese Wineberry BushUse this plant to bring some winter cheer to the garden! Originating from Eastern Asia, the Japanese Wineberry is grown as much for its ornamental value as it is for its edible fruits. The plant is very decorative - it has dark red stems that are covered in soft red bristles. The calyx (which surrounds the flowers) are also covered in fine red bristles and contrast beautifully against the lime-green foliage which turns almost yellow-white at the time of fruiting. The dark red canes really stand out in the winter and look particularly attractive on a frosty morning. The berries are dark red when fully ripe, juicy and sweet and have a strong raspberry flavour. They are delicious picked straight from the bush but can also be cooked and used to make jam. Plant 1.8m (6ft) apart.Buy Now
(image for) Gage Tree 'Oullins Golden Gage'
from £31.95Gage Tree 'Oullins Golden Gage'Rated by the Victorian writer Hogg as having "exquisite flavour and handsome appearance," this old French variety is more like a plum than a true gage. The fruits are large by gage standards and particularly attractive - golden yellow with faint red spots. Eaten fresh, the flesh is sweet and gage-like with a fruity flavour, far superior to most shop-bought plums. The fruits are also excellent cooked and freeze very well. An excellent choice for the garden, the tree crops reliably countrywide, even in poor summers.Buy Now
