Strawberry Plants
If you have ever grown your own strawberries before you will know that the aroma and flavour is far superior to that of shop bought fruit. What’s more, they take up a minimum amount of room and are easy to grow. All they require is a sunny, sheltered spot. Strawberry plants can be spaced 30cm (12in) apart in the open ground. Alternatively they can be grown in growbags (10 plants per growbag), or in hanging baskets or containers.

We understand the irresistible appeal of these luscious berries and the joy they bring to gardens and taste buds alike. That’s why our range also includes everbearing (‘perpetual’) varieties like ‘Mara des Bois’ and ‘Flamenco’. With a thoughtful selection, you could be enjoying home-grown strawberries from early summer right through to autumn!

Wondering how long it takes for strawberry plants to bear fruit? It’s natural to be keen on tasting your homegrown strawberries. Let’s compare the different types of plant, when they should be planted and when they will fruit:
- fresh dug runners - these are planted in the autumn (October/November) and will produce a small crop the following season.
- coldstored strawberry plants (coldstored runners) - these are planted in the spring/summer and will crop 60-90 days after planting.
- Supercrowns - these are coldstored runners with a larger crown size. They are planted in the spring/summer and, due to the larger crown size will maximise the 60-90 day yield.
