If you have ever grown your own strawberries before you will know that the aroma and flavour is far superior to that of shop bought fruit. What’s more, they take up a minimum amount of room and are easy to grow. All they require is a sunny, sheltered spot. Plants can be spaced 30cm (12in) apart in the open ground. Alternatively they can be grown in growbags (10 plants per growbag), or in hanging baskets or containers.

Our hand graded strawberry plants are raised on selected sites in the UK under the Plant Health Propagation Scheme (PHPS) and are guaranteed to be free from pests and diseases.

Unless otherwise stated in the product description, fresh dug strawberry runners are available from mid October to late November and will crop the following season. Coldstored strawberry plants are available from March to early July. These will crop 60-90 days after planting. Please note, some varieties (where stated in the product description) are only available as coldstored plants.

We understand the allure of growing your own strawberry plants and the satisfaction it brings to both novice and experienced gardeners alike. Our range of UK grown strawberry runners are chosen for their reliability to perform well in UK gardens.

We offer well-rooted plants that have a high likelihood of thriving when planted correctly. Our comprehensive planting guide will walk you through each step, ensuring you give your strawberry plant runners the best possible start.

When selecting strawberry varieties for your garden, there are several important factors to consider.

  • Harvest season is a key consideration, with options ranging from early summer-fruiting varieties to ever-bearers that produce crops from mid July until October.
  • Disease resistance is crucial, especially for those that garden in wetter areas or under glass. Many modern varieties offer resistance to common issues like verticillium wilt, crown rot, and powdery mildew.
  • Yield is another significant factor, with some varieties known for their exceptionally heavy crops.
  • Finally, flavour profiles vary widely between cultivars, from classically sweet to more complex, aromatic tastes, allowing you to choose based on your personal preferences or culinary needs.

Are you concerned about the time it takes for runners to produce fruit? We understand the eagerness to enjoy your homegrown strawberries. Let’s look at the difference between fresh-dug plants, coldstored plants and Supercrowns:

Fresh dug runners

  • Available for planting in the autumn (October to late November).
  • Will produce a small crop the following season.
  • Allow plants to establish over winter.

Coldstored strawberry plants (also known as coldstored runners )

  • Available for planting in the spring/summer (March to late June).
  • Will produce a maiden crop 60-90 days after planting.
  • Grow very rapidly.

Supercrowns

  • These are coldstored plants with a larger crown size.
  • Available for planting in the spring/summer (March to late June).
  • Best for maximising the yield within the 60-90 day period.
  • Ideal for growbag production.
  • Only available in certain varieties.
